All of the children in 9 Arch Musical Society‘s 11th production, The Wizard of Oz, are busy with final rehearsals ahead of the 60-member cast production that takes to the stage in the Town Hall Theatre Galway from November 19th to 22nd.

Dorothy is played by a local girl from Corrandulla, Sarah Maguire, and this is her second lead part with the society. She is an excellent young talent who along with their Munchkin friends is working very hard but still enjoying the rehearsals.

Adult leads include Tara Spellman as a fabulous Scarecrow, Jonathan Hopper as a powerful Tin Man, a new face to the musical society Michael Coooney plays the role of the evil Wicked Witch.

The main leads head a fabulous adult chorus of over 25 members, along with nearly 40 children in the junior group.

Musical Director Shane Farrell is putting all the children and adults through their musical paces while Peter Kennedy brings his experience of directing musicals all over Ireland. Peter is also putting all the cast through their dancing steps and bringing out the best of their acting talents.

This year for the first time the society welcomes Karl O’Doherty as assistant to the director for the junior group along with Eileen Moran as assistant to the musical director. Chairperson Annette Cavanagh said final rehearsals are going really well and the whole show is coming together brilliantly.

Annette also paid thanks to Principal Alan Mongey in Coláiste Bhaile Chláir for giving the society the use of the college as a rehearsal venue.

“Everybody is putting in a huge effort and everything seems to be falling into place, with no major disasters, so far!” said Annette.

Tickets for the show, including a matinée on Saturday, are available from the Town Hall Theatre on 091 569 777.
