Tributes have been paid to a Corofin man who died in tragic circumstances in a workplace accident last week.

Joe Fahy, a 54-year old father of two, was killed after becoming trapped between two vehicles at a dismantler’s yard in Cahermorris, Corrandulla last Wednesday.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which is also being examined by the Health and Safety Authority. Remembered as a perfect gentleman by those who knew him, Joe was laid to rest last Saturday, following Requiem Mass at St Colman’s Church.

Local councillor Mary Hoade said Joe, whose wife Christina had been a neighbour of hers, was a “friend to everyone”.

“The communities of both Corofin and Corrandulla are devastated by such a tragic incident,” she said.

“Joe was a great character and a friend to everyone. He was very well respected, which was reflected in the huge crowds that attended the wake, removal and funeral Mass.”

Cllr Hoade said the focus now was on supporting Joe’s wife Christina and their children Amanda and Jason in the weeks and months ahead.
