Patrick, Liam, Daniel and James are the most popular male baby names chosen in Galway City in 2014, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSA).

James was also at the top spot in 2013 and similar results were seen in 2012 when Jack and James were the most popular names.

In Galway County, Jack has proven the most popular name for a boy for three years in a row.

Sarah was the most popular girl’s name in 2014 in Galway City, with Sophie, Mia and Amelia the most popular in 2013, and Aoife in 2012.

In Galway County, Emily was the most popular name for a girl for her second year in a row, with Ella taking the top spot in 2012.

Across the country Jack took the overall top position with 786 male babies recorded as taking the name in 2014. Emily was the most popular name for girls, with a total of 619 taking the name.
